Sumter Metric Century 2009 

Event Details

Sumter Metric Century 2009 will be held at Lick Fork Lake Recreation Area near Edgefield SC on May 16, 2009. It is a mountain bike metric century race on 4 different single track trails, gravel and paved roads. It will start at 9:00am and end at 6:30pm. This event is low key, no concessions, no stress, just a lot of fun. There is an embroider hat for those that register early.

The Sumter Metric Century 2009 entry fee is $45 per rider for a SORBA member and non-SORBA member $55 per rider for for advance registration and $55 per rider for a SORBA member and non-SORBA member $65 per rider for registration the day of the event.  Advance registration cutoff date is April 28, 2009. There is a limit of 125 riders!!

Paying the entry fee allows you to compete in the event, liability and excess medical insurance during the event, and all the water you can drink!!!!!!!!  There will be 3 different sag stops and snacks at Lick Fork for after the event. 

The different classes of teams are; men and women under 30, 30 to 40 and over 40; single speed; and Clydesdale.  

An engraved 16-oz pint glass will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Men & Women under 30, 30 to 40 and over 40, single speed and Clydesdale.

Age Requirements

There are no age requirements for entering Sumter Metric Century. There is a waiver that has to be signed by all riders. If you are not 18 years old, you will need a guardian to sign on your behalf.

Safety Equipment
All participants are required to have the following safety equipment:
· CPCS, ANSI or ASTM certified bicycle helmet
· A rear blinky light (we will give you one if you do not have one)
· Water or sports drink


Course Description

The riders will ride the Horn Creek Trail.  Exit Horn Creek Trail and go down Lick Fork Road . Turn right onto Highway 230, cross Highway 23 and ride on North Martintown Road . Turn left onto Delaughter Road and then turns left onto New Cut Road .  At Key Road the riders will turn right and then turn right again onto Turkey Road .  They will turn left onto Highway 283 and go to the Wine Creek Trail Head.  Ride Wine Creek Trail to Key Road , then ride Turkey Creek Trail to USFS road 617A.  Ride USFS road 617A and turn left onto USFS road 617.  Turn left onto Prices Mill Road . Turn left onto Mt Lebanon Road and then turns left onto Church Street .  Then turn left onto USFS Road 632 and another left onto USFS Road 632A.  Will enter the back side on Stevens Creek Trail and ride Stevens Creek trail to the Stevens Creek Trail Head at Highway 23.  Will turn left onto Highway 23 and then turns right onto Morgan Drive . Will turn Right onto Red Oak Grove Road and turn left onto Garrett Road .  Turn left onto Sprouse Road and then right onto Key Road .  Turn left onto Highway 230 and then right onto Aldanat Drive . Turn left onto Lickfork Road and ride back to the Lick Fork Lake Recreation Area shelter. 

 In the event of rain, an alternate route will be used.  The alternate route will keep riders off the trails to prevent damage to the trail tread.


Day Tent Setup

You can setup a day tent in the grass field next to the shelter at Lick Fork.  

Shelter

We have rented the shelter and you can use it. There are restroom facilities at the shelter.

We will provide you with a free parking pass.
